Michelle Wie, for those that don't already know, is being touted as the next big star of golf. Arnold Palmer has even said she could be bigger than Tiger Woods. Not bad for a 16 year-old Korean-American woman from Hawaii. Wie, who already has a number of golf records (see wikipedia for a list), is trying to become the first woman ever to qualify for the U.S. Open. She is competing against 152 men in the Open qualifier at Canoe Brook County Club in Summit, NJ, and needs to finish in the top 18 to make history. She began the day in 8th place, but as of 3:15pm PST, she was in 33rd place. You can follow the story at the NY Times, ESPN or Sports Illustrated.
UPDATE: Michelle Wie did not qualify for the men's U.S. Open, but she did have an impressive showing. This is just the beginning of what promises to be an amazing career.
This is really possible, Michelle Wie is so young and she has many years to be listed on golf history. Wie has enough time to be the next Tiger Woods.
