REVOLUTIONARY?

Loyal readers know that we exist primarity to precipate The Coming Societal Transformation.  Recent events in Venezuela (namely, the granting of law-by-decree powers to President Hugo Chavez) remind us of just what this might look like.  After being re-elected for a third term, Chavez has vowed that "We're heading toward socialism, and nothing and no-one can prevent it."  Critics have charged that Chavez is going the way of his hero, Fidel Castro, and will turn Venezuela into an authoritarian dictatorship.  Supporters suggest that Venezuela is actually moving towards social equality.  We are both inspired, and skeptical.  Chavez insists that his 'Bolivarian Revolution' is a new kind of socialism for the 21st century.  We remain hopeful.
